SensorHUB
The SensorHUB is an innovative device that integrates multiple probing sensors. It can support a mix of NPN, PNP, Normally open (NO), and normally closed (NC) sensors.
The application of the SensorHUB is for sensors that are used for measuring. So this does not refer to the sensors used for referencing/homing the machine.
The SensorHUB is equipped with signal conversion capabilities, enabling it to convert different signal types into a uniform normally closed output signal. The device also offers a selectable output voltage option, allowing users to choose between 5 or 24 volts based on the requirements of the probe input of the controller board.
This manual provides instructions on setting up and configuring the SensorHUB and guidelines for troubleshooting any technical issues that may arise. We hope this manual provides the necessary knowledge to utilize the SensorHUB.
The SensorHUB is a product developed by EdingCNC; however, this problem is very common and can be used with other non-EdingCNC types of controllers.
The SensorHub is a versatile product that connects and utilizes three probe sensor types. At the bottom are screw connectors for each sensor, providing secure connections. Adjacent to the screw connectors are blue indicator LEDs associated with each sensor, indicating sensor detection.
At the top of the SensorHub are two switches for each sensor. These switches allow users to adjust settings, including sensor type (NPN or PNP) and configuration (normally open (NO) or normally closed (NO)).
The 'Out Level' switch on the SensorHub allows users to select the desired output voltage for all connected sensors simultaneously. Users can choose between 24V or 5V output, depending on the desired input voltage of the CNC controller board.
Make sure 5V/24V output signal is correctly set before connecting the SensorHUB. Using 24V on a 5V input can damage the input of the controller board.
Usage:
The SensorHUB allows you to connect and convert signals from up to three sensors simultaneously while only requiring a single probe input on a controller board. This enables multiple probe sensors, making it a valuable tool for precise and reliable measurements in various CNC applications.
Don't use:
The SensorHUB is designed to provide a flexible and reliable solution for connecting and converting signals from sensors for your CNC controller, but there are some use cases where it may not be suitable. Here are a few scenarios where the SensorHUB should not be used:
- High voltage applications: The SensorHUB is designed to work only with +24VDC sensors and is unsuitable for high voltage applications. Attempting to use the SensorHUB with high voltage sensors or applications can damage the SensorHUB or the equipment and pose a safety hazard.
- Incompatible sensor types: The SensorHUB is designed to work with NPN and PNP (inductive) sensors but may not be compatible with other types of sensors.
- Extreme environments: The SensorHUB is designed to operate within a normal temperature range and humidity range. It should not be used in extreme environments, as this can affect the performance and reliability of the SensorHUB.
- Safety-critical applications: The SensorHUB is not designed for use in safety-critical applications, such as medical devices, aerospace systems, or other applications where a failure of the SensorHUB can harm individuals or property damage.
- Turn off the power supply to the SensorHUB and the equipment where the sensor will be used.
- Choose one of the input terminals on the SensorHUB.
- Connect the (blue) ground wire of the sensor to the "-" terminal of the input terminal.
- Connect the (+24V, brown) wire of the sensor to the "+" terminal of the input terminal. This wire is the power supply wire for the sensor.
- Connect the black wire of the sensor to the input terminal. This wire is the signal wire for the sensor.
- Make sure to switch to the correct NPN/PNP setting, NO/NC setting and output voltage. If you're unsure what sensor you're about to use, consult the sensor datasheet.
- Turn on the power supply to the CNC controller and the SensorHUB. Make sure that the status LED is green.
If a sensor input is not in use, please switch to 'NO(off)' to disable the input.
It's essential to avoid short-circuiting the inputs. However, in the unlikely event this happens a protection circuit becomes active. A red LED indicates this.
To resolve this issue please remove the power to the board and wait 30 seconds before applying the power. This should be enough time for the circuit to recover.
Connecting the SensorHUB to your control boards is a simple process as shown below.
The 'SIGNAL OUT' should be connected to your controller board's 'Probe' input. The board can be powered by an external power supply or by the controller board. Make sure that there is common ground.
Configure the output level to 5V before connecting the SensorHUB to the board.
To be added...
Configure the output level to 24V before connecting the SensorHUB to the board.
The Sensor out functions as a Normally closed output. In typical operation, the Output is active if none of the sensors is detecting. Set the probe input type to NPN.
Configure the output level to 24V before connecting the SensorHUB to the board.
